The sports focus of Saskatchewan is on Nipawin as Game Seven goes tonight in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League Canalta Cup finals. The winner, either the NipawinHawks or EstevanBruins, will hoist the Cup, and bring an end to what has been the SJHL’s most trying season. The victor will also represent the SJHL against Manitoba in the Anavet Cup, with the winner of that advancing to play in the RBC Cup.
No doubt, these two teams will be holding nothing back in what is sure to be an emotion-filled night, as Saskatchewan continues to struggle to come to terms with the Humboldt Broncos bus crash tragedy that has ravaged this league. The funerals are all over now, so maybe people might begin to move forward a little from this, but it’s been a tough time. Also, people have this latest Toronto tragedy to think about now as well. Maybe this game will allow people to get their mind off of other things.
I most definitely plan to tune in the radio broadcast of the game tonight, in between doing the laundry. Such is life around here.
UPDATE: the news is that Nipawin has won the Cup.
