Box office: after three weeks, Inside Out finally wins the weekend!

Oh, Joy! After three weeks of wide release, Inside Out has finally nosed out Jurassic World to win the weekend with a domestic haul of $29.8 million. It also won the five-day holiday period at $45 million.

But it was not a good July 4th weekend overall at the box office as numbers were down considerably from expectations, with last week’s new releases Terminator: Genisys and Magic Mike XXL left in the dust at $27 mil and $12.9 mil, respectfully.

No doubt, with respect to Magic Mike XXL, there was decidedly little appeal among the male segment of the moviegoing audience, for obvious reasons. Not even the girlfriends could succeed in dragging them kicking and screaming to this flick. As for Genisys, it’s yet another boring-looking stale idea from your friends in Hollywood. Maybe this will finally be the end of the Terminator franchise once and for all; it has been brought back from the crypt so often now that it is a getting to be a joke, though I notice the international haul for it this weekend was considerably better. Still, it’s time to call it a day, Ahhnold.
