Blockbuster season kicks off with $187 mil weekend for The Avengers: Age of Ultron

In direct competition with the big Mayweather-Pacquiao fight was the big movie: The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Despite numerous predictions that it might shatter the opening weekend box office record, its domestic haul of $187 million means it falls short by about $20 million.

Still, its performance is nothing to sneeze at, and if you count the foreign box office numbers it has already made $626.7 million. Not a bad start to summer blockbuster season. As usual, Marvel rules again.
